Frequently Asked Questions
We believe choosing the right bed for your dog should feel simple, thoughtful, and transparent. Below you'll find answers to our most common questions. If you don't see what you're looking for, we're always happy to help.
General
Both versions of our Classic Bed feature the same supportive shredded natural latex core and removable organic cotton canvas cover. The difference is the comfort layer surrounding the latex.
Wool-filled
- Plush, cloud-like feel with more loft and natural resiliency
- Springs back beautifully after use
- Naturally regulates temperature and manages moisture
- Naturally resistant to odors
- Ideal for dogs who enjoy a plusher sleeping surface
Cotton-filled
- Smooth, supportive feel with a slightly firmer sleep surface
- Breathable and lightweight
- Naturally cool and comfortable
- Great for dogs who tend to run warm or prefer a firmer sleeping surface
Both beds provide excellent support thanks to the natural latex core. The choice comes down to the feel your dog is most likely to enjoy.
Both options are made with thoughtfully sourced natural materials and provide the same supportive shredded latex core. The difference is in the sleeping experience.
Choose wool if your dog enjoys sinking into a softer, loftier bed with a plush, cloud-like feel. Wool offers a bit more cushion and bounce while naturally regulating temperature and helping manage moisture throughout the year.
Choose cotton if your dog prefers a slightly firmer, flatter sleeping surface or tends to run warm. Cotton is breathable, lightweight, and offers a clean, crisp feel.
If you're still unsure, we'd be happy to help you choose the best option for your dog.
The best bed size depends on your dog’s breed, weight, and preferred sleeping style. We recommend choosing a size that allows your dog to stretch out comfortably while still feeling cozy and supported.
Small 26" × 18" × 4"
Best for toy breeds and small dogs such as Yorkies, Chihuahuas, Dachshunds, and small terriers.
Medium 32" × 24" × 5"
Great for small to medium breeds such as Beagles, Cocker Spaniels, French Bulldogs, and smaller Border Collies.
Large 38" × 28" × 5"
Ideal for medium to large breeds such as Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, Golden Retrievers, and Labrador Retrievers.
Extra Large 44" × 32" × 5"
Best for larger breeds such as German Shepherds, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Great Danes, and dogs who love extra room to stretch out.
Every dog is unique, so we recommend considering both your dog’s size and sleeping habits. If your dog is between sizes or enjoys stretching out, we recommend sizing up for additional comfort.
Yes. Every Classic Bed contains a supportive shredded natural latex core that gently cushions pressure points while providing resilient support that won't compress like conventional foam.
Natural fibers will settle slightly with use, but shredded latex is exceptionally resilient and maintains its loft far longer than polyurethane foam. If your bed ever needs a refresh years down the road, we also offer refresh kits to extend its life.
Many customers choose our beds because they're made without polyurethane foam, flame retardants, or unnecessary chemical treatments. Natural wool, cotton, and latex are breathable materials that help create a cleaner sleeping environment.
If your dog has a diagnosed latex allergy (which is uncommon in dogs), we recommend consulting your veterinarian before purchasing.
Yes. Wool naturally helps manage moisture and odors, while the breathable construction encourages airflow to keep the bed fresher between washes.
Yes. Every Classic Bed includes a removable zippered cover that can be machine washed.
Absolutely. Our interchangeable covers let you freshen your dog's bed, change colors, or always have a clean cover ready while another is in the wash.
Our Classic Bed is available in Small, Medium, Large, and XL. A sizing guide is available on each product page to help you find the best fit.
Materials & Craftsmanship
Each Classic Bed is thoughtfully made using only a handful of carefully selected natural materials:
- Organic cotton canvas removable cover
- Organic cotton liner
- Natural shredded latex
- Either natural wool batting or GOTS-certified cotton batting
We intentionally avoid polyurethane foam, polyester, and unnecessary chemical treatments.
While cotton and wool add a soft, cushiony layer to our beds, they both naturally compress over time. The latex layer provides long-lasting spring and support, helping the bed maintain its shape and comfort as your pet ages.
Our shredded natural Dunlop latex is sourced through a trusted U.S. supplier that specializes in natural bedding materials. The latex itself is harvested in Sri Lanka using the traditional Dunlop process, one of the oldest and most durable methods of producing natural latex.
While our current latex is not GOLS certified, we selected this supplier because of their longstanding commitment to high-quality, responsibly sourced, non-toxic natural materials.
Yes.
Our cotton batting is GOTS-certified organic cotton sourced from Texas and supplied through our California partner.
Our organic cotton canvas is sourced through an American textile company and manufactured in a GOTS-certified facility.
Wool is a naturally renewable fiber that comes from sheep raised on pasture.
Our wool batting comes from a trusted California supplier who works with local family-run farms. While the wool is not certified organic, many small farms follow excellent animal husbandry and land stewardship practices without pursuing formal certification, often because of the significant cost involved.
We prioritize transparency, trusted relationships, and responsible sourcing when selecting every material.
We carefully research every supplier before choosing a material for our beds.
Whenever possible, we prioritize:
- Natural renewable fibers
- Third-party certifications
- Responsible manufacturing
- Suppliers with strong transparency and sustainability practices
Although The Woolly Hound is not yet a certified manufacturer, we intentionally source materials from suppliers who meet high environmental and safety standards, and we plan to pursue additional certifications as we continue to grow.
Shipping & Orders
All orders ship from Indiana.
Unlike many foam pet beds, we don't compress our beds into vacuum-sealed packages. While vacuum sealing saves space during shipping, we found it permanently reduces the loft of natural wool and cotton batting.
Instead, we gently fold each bed and pack it into the smallest box possible to better preserve the natural cushioning, resilience, and shape of the materials.
It may cost a little more to ship, but we believe your dog's comfort is worth it.
Remove the bed from the box, unfold it, and give it a gentle fluff. The natural materials may need a little time to relax after shipping.
If needed, massage and fluff the bed by hand to help redistribute the wool or cotton and shredded latex evenly.
Because our beds aren't vacuum compressed, they'll be ready to use right away. You may notice a few creases from being folded during shipping, but these will naturally relax over the first day or two as the materials settle.
Product Care Information
Our cotton and wool inserts share the same care routine and are designed to be naturally refreshed with simple spot cleaning. Spot clean using a mild detergent (avoid harsh chemicals) and rinse thoroughly. For heavily soiled areas, after spot cleaning, run water through affected area until the water runs clear. Gently squeeze out excess water with a towel. Lay flat in the sun to dry completely. Sunlight helps naturally refresh and deodorize the fibers, keeping the insert clean and odor-free over time.
Machine wash cold with a mild detergent, avoiding harsh chemicals. Tumble dry on low or medium heat. Washing with similar colors and caring for stains promptly will help maintain the fabric’s color, texture, and longevity.
